OPC Server
All SCADA and Automation kits and a bunch of computer languages can communicate with OPC servers. OPC allows reading and registering, locally or through a network, of measurement values and settings in a very easy way.
The problem is that OPC servers do not yet exist for a lot of hardware. If they do exist, they usually cost a lot of money, which makes it difficult for the client.
CIT Engineering developed a universal OPC server with a driver plug-in architecture.
This means that the OPC server can use all hardware that uses a plug-in driver. These drivers can be written in any language in which it is possible to create C type dlls (e.g. C++ and LabVIEW).
With the OPC server, a configuration tool is available which allows recording of which drivers must load the OPC Server, which tags can be read and written and which settings must be used to configure the driver.
Developing plug-in drivers is very easy and can be done on the basis of a C++ or LabVIEW template which only needs hardware steering completion.
